REAL PRESENCE – Generation 2004 is international
meeting of young artists and students of art academies that was
taking place in Belgrade for the fourth time
in the Museum 25th of May, from 20th
till 31st of August 2004 and which has presented till
now about five hundred young artists and art students from different
countries of Europe and world.
In it's fourth edition REAL PRESENCE will host
and present about 100 young artists and art students from academies
from different countries: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria,
Croatia, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Macedonia,
Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland and USA and from
different academies and art schools from Serbia and Montenegro
(Belgrade, Cetinje, Novi Sad and Zvecani) which will present their
works and realize performances, actions, interventions and installations
in the space of the museum and other locations in the city during
their permanence in Belgrade.
REAL PRESENCE is unique initiative and project
that have started in Belgrade in 2001, and that have developed
since than widespread network of collaborations and contacts between
emerging generations of young artists coming from different cultural
contexts. It develops the idea of “museum as free
and open laboratory” given to the young artists
for their permanence and work, as well as for the encounters,
screenings, discussions and staying together. As result and further
development of this initiative, similar projects has been realised
in other places during the last three years, such as Frankfurt,
Zurich, Rotterdam, Sicily and Venice.
REAL PRESENCE – Generation 2004 has been realised
as open artistic workshop and it was open in the real sense of
the word for visits, collaborations and gatherings in the space
of the museum where were realised permanent programs, artistic
presentations, video screenings, performances and discussions.
Beside daily program the museum has been used as open space for
the realisation of works, installations, interactive projects
and actions, and will be concluded in the form of exhibition.
REAL PRESENCE – Generation 2004, can be
considered a low budget manifestation that involves a large number
of participants. It has been realised with the support of: Ministry
